Kybella Q & A
What is Kybella?
Kybella is a medicinal injection that your provider uses to disintegrate submental fat, also known as a double chin. Kybella is made of a manufactured version of deoxycholic acid, a chemical your body produces naturally to absorb fat.
It’s a great alternative to more invasive procedures like liposuction or surgery. When your provider injects Kybella directly into your neck fat, the adipose cells die forever, and your body removes them through your lymphatic system.
Barring any significant weight gain, your double chin never comes back.
What causes double chin?
When you have an extra layer of fat beneath your chin, it can be caused by any of the following:
- Genetics
- Diet
- Weight gain
- Posture
While there are some exercises you can do or diet changes you can make to help, Kybella speeds your results.
Who is a good candidate for Kybella?
As long as you’re over the age of 18 and are in good health, you can have Kybella. Ideal candidates for double chin treatments:
- Have a moderate amount of neck fat
- Want to avoid surgery
- Get no results from diet or exercise
It’s important to note that Kybella is just for fat; it doesn’t improve skin tone or texture.
How many Kybella treatments do I need?
Depending on the constitution of your submental fat and your body’s unique response to the treatment, you’ll probably need to come in for multiple treatments. On average, most people need between three and six sessions to get the best results.
Each session is usually scheduled about two months apart. At your consultation, with your health history in mind, your provider goes over all the details, so you know what to expect.
What can I expect after a Kybella treatment?
After each Kybella injection, it’s likely that you’ll experience some bruising, redness, and swelling but there’s no need to worry. These are normal reactions to the medicinal solution and injections. You may have mild swelling for up to a month, but when it subsides, you’re left with a beautiful chin without any submental fullness.
Your provider recommends that your limit activities for the first day after the procedure. After that, you’re free to resume normal activities.
If you think Kybella may be right for you, call All Island Dermatology to learn more or schedule an appointment online.
