Botox Q & A
What is BOTOX?
BOTOX is an injectable cosmetic treatment that has been approved by the FDA since 2002. Millions of people across the world have regular BOTOX injections to reduce or prevent the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines around their eyes and on their foreheads
BOTOX, and other injectable neurotoxin treatments such as Dysport® and Xeomin®, work by temporarily paralyzing the tiny facial muscles that manipulate your skin when you make facial expressions. As those small muscles stop moving, your skin relaxes, and your wrinkles and fine lines disappear.
Am I a good candidate for BOTOX?
BOTOX is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 who is concerned about signs of aging. When you start to have BOTOX injections is up to you. Some people prefer to begin BOTOX when they’re younger to prevent wrinkles from forming in the first place, or you may choose to start fighting your wrinkles later in life.
You should be in good health overall to have BOTOX. The providers at All Island Dermatology offer consultations and exams to determine if BOTOX is the best treatment to address your skin concerns.
What should I expect during a BOTOX treatment?
A BOTOX treatment usually takes around 15 minutes. Your provider begins by studying your face to identify the best locations for your injections. Next, they cleanse your face and prepare the syringe of BOTOX.
BOTOX injections are usually well tolerated, but if you’re nervous about needles or have very sensitive skin, you can request a topical numbing cream to ensure your comfort.
Your provider will make several injections into your facial skin on your forehead, between your eyebrows, and around your eyes.
In most cases, your skin should look younger and more youthful within 7-10 days of your appointment. Your skin needs a little time to relax and release the wrinkles and folds.*
How should I take care of my skin after a BOTOX treatment?
You should clean and moisturize your face gently after a BOTOX treatment and avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours. You should also always wear sunscreen to reduce your risk of sun damage.
If you’re concerned about signs of aging, call All Island Dermatology or schedule a consultation online today to find out if BOTOX is the best treatment to enhance your appearance.
