Fraxel & IPL Q & A
What is the Lumenis M22?
The Lumenis M22 is a multifaceted platform with four major applications: Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy, ResurFX™, Multi-Spot™ Nd: YAG, and Q-Switched Nd: YAG. Each feature targets common skin conditions with a noninvasive light or laser treatment.
How does the Lumenis M22 work?
As a multifaceted platform, the Lumenis M22 treats more than 30 skin problems by taking advantage of the most advanced skin care technology available. It has four main functions:
IPL therapy
Similar to laser therapy, IPL delivers varying wavelengths of light to penetrate your skin and target skin conditions like:
- Broken capillaries
- Rosacea
- Birthmarks
- Freckles
- Age spots
- Varicose veins
- Unwanted hair
- Sun damage
This noninvasive treatment requires no downtime, so you can return to your regular activities after each session.
ResurFX
The ResurFX is the only fractional nonablative laser available. The laser uses CoolScan™ technology, which monitors the temperature of the laser to protect your skin from damage. It improves the appearance of:
- Surgical scars
- Acne scars
- Stretch marks
- Uneven skin tone
- Age spots
- Wrinkles
- Loose skin
Each noninvasive treatment takes just 30 minutes with virtually no downtime.
Multi-Spot Nd: YAG
The Multi-Spot Nd: YAG has Multiple-Sequential Pulsing that promotes cooling between pulses for maximum comfort. It’s most often used to remove unwanted hair and minimize the appearance of varicose veins and spider veins.
Q-Switched Nd: YAG
This unique laser is powerful without harming the skin, so it’s best used to remove dark pigments. The All Island Dermatology team recommends the Q-Switched Nd: YAG for:
- Brown spots
- Age spots
- Spider veins
Though primarily used on the skin, the Q-Switched Nd: YAG also effectively treats toenail fungus.
What can I expect from my first treatment?
What you can expect from your first Lumenis M22 treatment depends entirely on the skin problems that you want to target. The All Island Dermatology team may apply a topical numbing or cooling gel to make your treatment as comfortable as possible.
It’s important to avoid tanning and sun exposure prior to your appointment. You may experience minor redness or inflammation, but these side effects should subside within the first few hours after you leave the All Island Dermatology office.
Though most patients notice skin improvements after the first session, the team recommends at least three treatments for dramatic results. To learn more about the Lumenis M22, call All Island Dermatology, or schedule an appointment online.
